Welcome to Skin Care 101! Throughout the next few weeks, I'm going give you a tour through my skin care routine. It is quite excessive since I pay a lot of attention to taking care of my skin. That being said, I hope these posts will be informative! Also I use a lot of Asian skincare products, so some of these might be hard to get a hold of. I tend to stock up whenever I travel there which is why I have so many. But you can probably find them online (I can't promise that the prices aren't raised though!)
Let's start with step number 1: REMOVING MAKEUP. I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to remove EVERYTHING off your face at the end of the day. Sleeping with makeup clogs pores and promotes breakouts. Yucky!
I have a few makeup cleansers that I rotate through based on how much makeup I'm wearing. I'm a skin care hoarder so I have lots of products that serve the same purpose but are also a bit different as you will see in the next few posts. Oh gosh.
In order from left to right in the picture above, I remove my makeup using...
Philosophy- Just Release Me Eye Makeup Remover (not on Sephora's site anymore?)
This is the makeup remover I have been using recently. I've always used Lancome's Bifacil which is amazing because it takes everything off. I wanted to try something new that was cheaper and I found this at Sephora. It is still $18 but better than Lancome's $28. (I spend wayyyyyy too much money on skin care)
Anyways, this is a pretty good makeup remover. It doesn't take off everything like Bifacil does though (I like Bifacil a bit more) That being said, I use INCREDIBLY waterproof mascaras and eyeliners. With this, I just have to spend a little bit more time making sure I get everything off. However, if you wear products that are generally easier to remove, this will do the job fine. It's described as a "dual-phase oil-free eye makeup remover". Dual-phase makeup removers are the way to go because they tend to remove makeup much better. Also, even though it says oil-free, it still feels oily (which I don't mind because I wash my face after anyways).
Bioderma- Sensibo (Crealine) H2O Micelle Solution (I don't even know what this name means...)
This next makeup remover has been raved about by everyoneeee. I believe it is a French product so you'll have to buy it online or in some small stores (I found mine in a Japanese beauty store in LA actually) This is also a good makeup remover but again doesn't remove all my makeup in just one swipe. The reason why people like this is because it does a good job removing makeup and is not a dual-phase remover which means.... no oily feeling! It looks like water and it feels like water, but it does a reallllyyyy good job removing makeup. This removes non-waterproof mascara, powders, eyeshadows, etc. easy. But it's a little harder taking off eyeliners and waterproof mascaras.
HadaLabo- Gokujyun Cleansing Oil
Now, cleansing oils are COMPLETELY different from the two earlier makeup removers I've discussed. These are oils that you apply to a dry face with your hands to remove your makeup. After spending a bit of time getting everything off, you wet your hands a little and emulsify the product (which basically makes it a little milky looking). Then, you just rinse your face with water and tadaahh! No more makeup. This removes EVERYTHING. I'm talking EVERYTHING. It takes off face makeup, eyeliners, waterproof mascaras. I feel as if many are afraid to try cleansing oils because of its name. When we think oil, we think clogged pores and acne. However, after you take off all your makeup, emulsifying the product gets all that oily feeling off. It leaves your face feeling fresh, clean, and not greasy at all. It's also quite a light oil and is super convenient because you don't need multiple cotton pads. One pump on your hands is all you need.
Bifesta- Cleansing Lotion in Moist
This has the same concept as Bioderma (a water-based makeup remover) but this isn't a good makeup remover at all. It only takes off the stuff that's super easy to take off (think powder products). However, it leaves the face feeling nice and you don't have to wash your face after, at least I never do. I like to use this when I see a little bit of makeup still on my face after I've already washed my face and removed almost everything. Rather than whipping out the heavy duty stuff, I use a little bit of this cleansing lotion and clean up the little bit of smudging that might still be under my eyes that I missed. Rather than using this as a makeup remover to remove everything off my face, I use this to clean up the little bit of makeup that may still be on my eyes after using the above products.
Andddddd that's it!
My favorite makeup removers are definitely Lancome's Bifacil (which I will repurchase once I'm done with Philosophy's) and HadaLabo's Cleansing Oil. Although the other ones are pretty good, these two remove makeup sooooo easily and quickly.
Next up in Skin Care 101... Cleansing!
